Do you struggle with motivation and energy this time of year?

It’s very common as we head into the colder months to struggle more with tiredness and fatigue. Luckily we’ve put together some simple things you can do to help!

  1. Don’t rely on caffeine!

We all love a pick me up during the day, but relying on caffeinated drinks ot get us through the day if we are tired is not the answer and often, over consumption of caffeine based drinks can result in other negative side effects.

Instead, try to pinpoint the root causes of your fatigue and manage them accordingly

Example - If you are tired because you slept badly, try going to bed earlier or having a quick power nap during the day.

2. Manage Your Sleep Patterns

Often we experience incxreased tiredness or fatigue if we do not have a regular sleep pattern.

Now, we are well aware that it is not easy to create a structured sleep pattern, especially with work, children, activities - so here’s our key advice:

  • Try to make sure you get up around the same time each day, often when we have scattered wake up times and bed times it can disrupt our body clock

  • Try going to bed 30 mins earlier, you may not necessarily sleep straight away but winding your body down earlier in the evening van help to increase your sleep quality.

  • Try to avoid screens in the hour before you go to sleep, being active on phones, tvs or similar can stop our brain from calming and unwinding, making it harder to sleep. If you are struggling, try listening to a podcast or similar so you still have background noise!

3. Fresh Air

A common cause of fatigue is lack of fresh air. This is because we don;t get fresh air circulting the body and we don’t get the ch ace to remove stale air either which can make us feel more tired and low on energy.

It’s not easy to get fresh air if you are commuting or work indoors all day, so try to get out at lunchtimes or early mornings even if it’s just for 10 mins!

4. Lack Of Movement

We all know the saying ‘the less you do, the worse you feel’ and there is truth in this! The less movement we have on a daily based, the more tired we feel and the harder evrything gets. We are not saying you need to be in the gym every day as this may not be a realistic commitment. However, getting out for walks, maybe doing 30 mins of stretching and movement in the mornings or evenings, heading to a class straight after work - these are all great ways to keep the body active and the energy levels up!

To summarise all of this, lack of energy, fatigue and tiredness all usually stem from our daily habits, the most common of which are lack fo sleep, poor diet and lack of movement.

So, to help keep yourself feeling good this autumn, try to regulate your sleep patters, eat a fresh and varied diet and don’t overdo it on the caffeine!
