In Person Vs Online Fitness

If you have found it hard to get to the gym around a busy schedule, you may be considering the option of online training.

In person and online training have very different approaches, so we’re going to dive into the pros and cons of both!

In Person Training

Training face to face with someone or in person training has a number of benefits inlcuding the following:

  • Social Interaction

  • Motivation to push a little harder than you would yourself

  • No distractions from home

  • More accountability if you show up to classes and sessions

However we understand that getting to the gym around a busy schedule can be tricky, so here are some things we suggest:

  • commit to a weekly class or session that you can block out of your work diary to help accountability

  • Look at ways to get to the gym more often - does your office have a space you can use?

  • Go straight from work, this helps us to avoid losing motivation

Online Training

Online training also has it’s benefits, you can fit it more flexibly around your schedule and it helps if you are struggling with things such as childcare or home commitments.

However there are a number of challenges that come with home training:

  • you might not push yourself as hard as you would in the gym

  • You can’t have your technique corrected as well as you can in person

  • you are likely to get distracted by things at home

  • it’s harder to switch off and focus

There are some ways to manage these challenges if you do prefer to train at home or online:

  • create a dedictaed space just for your sessions to avoid distractions

  • tell everyone when your workouts are going to be so that you aren’t bothered by people

  • ensure that you are confident with the exercises you are doing to avoid mistakes and prevent injury

To summarise, both in person and online training both have their benefits and challenges.

Whichever you choose, the most important thing to consider is whether or not you are getting an effective workout, if not, then you need to consider if you have the right option.
