New Season - New Challenges

September has arrived - and whilst we may not want to say goodbye to summer, now is the time to start thinking about how you want to manage your fitness going into Autumn.

Here’s some things that are key to consider…

  1. Is your current fitness programme working?

One of the essential checks you should be making as you go into a new month is ‘is your current fitness programme working?’. We don’t just mean physical results here, you should also be considering if it’s working in terms of time, enjoyability, financially.

If you are finding that it’s not working in several areas then you need to consider if it’s the best way to move forwards, or whether your need to make a change. We recommend asking yourself the following questions:

  • Are you able to get to the gym / PT session / Class at least 1-2 times per week?

  • Are you enjoying the sessions that you are doing and if not - why?

  • Are you able to afford to continue for at least another month with your chosen programme?

  • Are you seeing positive mental and physical results from your programme?

2. Have your goals changed since you started your current programme?

This is a really important question to ask as it will directly affect the type of exercise programme you need to be following. It’s natual that our goals may chnage ove rtime, we just need to make sure we are working int he correctw ay to achieve them!

For example, you may have started out wanting to lose weight and so your exercise programme would have been focused on a more equal mix of cardio and weights.

However, if you now feel you want to focus more on building muscle, you will need to adapt your programme to include more strength training - so it’s important to be honest with yourself about what you want.

Has anything else in your life changed that may affect you being able to exercise?

Sometimes, life happens, and it’s not directly down to us that our fitness routine has changed.

Perhaps your work schedule has changed, maybe you have to commute more or your children have more commitments. It’s normal to have things change and we need to try and be flexible.

One thing we recommend doing at the start of a new month is sitting down with a planner and going through any events., commitments, family changes that may be happening over the next few weeks and try to plan around them so that you don’t have to miss out. Don’t leave it until the last minute to realise, plan ahead and allow your life, work and fitness to co-ordinate with each other!

To summarise - a new season means new changes but also new opportunities. Use September as a chance to reflect and reset your routine and make sure that you are still getting the most out of your training!
