Tackling The Fear Of The Gym
There’s no doubt that gyms can be intimidating places - especially if you are new to exercise. Sometimes it’s not the workout that is off putting, it’s actually the anxiety of the space.
We’re going to share a couple of tips on how to overcome the fear of the gym!
Try going with a friend first
Sometimes it’s easier when you’re not alone, going to the gym with a friend first may help you to feel less nervous and intimidated by the gym. The same applies with classes, finding your feet with a friend first can help you to build confidence!
2. Book A session With A Trainer
A session with a trainer to help you get started is one of the best ways to overcome gym anxiety! They can help you get familiar with the space and the machines so that you feel confident going in on your own.
A trainer can also give you ideas about what to do in your sessions and is another friendly face you can turn to if you’re unsure!
3. Get Recommendations
It may be worth asking for some recommendations of smaller gyms where it’s quieter as often this feels less intimating than larger, busier gyms.
You can also fine out when the busier periods are at your current gym so that if you prefer a quieter space you can try and plan around it.
The key thing to remember is that everyone is nervous the first time they step into a gym and we all have to start somewhere.
Remember than no one is watching you - even if it feels like it! There will always be a friendly face on hand to help so don’t be afraid to ask!
