Why Measurements Should Not Be Your Sole Progress Monitor

There are many different ways to monitor your progress when it comes to fitness. Measurements on the scales have become a major focus for people, but it’s not the only way!

We’re going to delve into a few other ways you can see results, so, if you aren’t a fan of the scales, we’ll find something for you!

Using Clothes Sizing

Sometimes we may not see our numbers change on the scale, but we might see our clothing size change. This can be because your body shape is changing, you are building more muscle or dropping weight - visual results are a good sign of your progress!

Increased Weights In The Gym

If you are upping your weights in the gym, this is a clear sign of progress within your training. Sometimes we are so focused on the results we see or feel that we aren’t recognising the progress we are making using our exercise session itself!

Day to Day Tasks

Sometimes it’s the little things. Being able to move around more easily. Feeling less tension in your body or being able to do things around the house that you couldn’t before. Progress isn’t always about our body fat and muscle mass, it’s also about our mobility and ability to carry out day to day essentials.

Respiratory Fitness

Ever found that you felt out of breath after walking or going up the stairs? Maybe you don’t get out of breath as quickly as you used to. Maybe you can walk for longer without needing to sit down. These are signs of progress within your cardio and respiratory fitness and are highly important to monitor!

To summarise, there are so many ways to monitor your progress in fitness without suing scales.

It’s also important to remember that whilst it is good to keep an eye on your physical measurements, it’s not all about the body fat and the muscle mass. It’s just as important to recognise the other wins too!
