The Biggest Mistakes People Make In The Gym
We often talk about all the things you should do in the gym - but what about things you shouldn’t do?
We’re delving into the common mistakes people make in the gym and how to avoid them…
Skipping Warm Ups and Cool Downs
Warm ups and cool downs are an essential part of your training session as they help prevent injuries and make your workouts more effective. Skipping these parts of your workout could result in pulled muscles and excessive aching, which could hinder future training
Ensure you schedule at least 5 mins before and after your sessions to do adequate warm ups and stretches.
Going Straight For The Heaviest Weight
We’re not saying that you shouldn’t push yourself when training, however, it can be really beneficial to use one lighter set to engage the correct muscles for each exercise.
For example: Shoulder Press
Using a lighter set of dumbbells for your first set can help to engage the shoulders , biceps and upper back so that when you move to the heavier reps, the muscles are working as they should.
Not Adjusting When You Need To
Listening to your body is one of the most important elements of health and fitness. We need to be able to recognise when our bodies are needing some respite.
There is a difference in pushing through when you’re tired and pushing through pain in the joints or muscles. If you’re body is feeling low on energy or you’re struggling with muscle pain, you can adjust the intensity of your workout so that it’s still effective but it’s not overloading the body.
